Located in Tokai approximately 20 mins from central Cape Town, Steenberg Green is a luxury boutique housing development providing open plan living with excellent security.
The 1 hectare site is located in Tokai was originally occupied by an equestrian school and enjoys panoramic views over the Tokai Conservation Corridor bordering SANParks land towards Devils’ Peak and west towards the Constantiaberg.
The owner had previously developed the highly successful adjacent Steenberg Estate and now wished to develop the site for 12 No. gated upmarket freehold residences relating to the semi-rural character of the Tokai Valley while creating a highly desirable exclusive living environment.
To enhance the value of the site pre-development the client recognised the need to provide high quality infrastructure in line with the future upmarket development including gatehouse, driveway access, stormwater swales and detention areas and attractive landscaping.
With this in mind, OvP were appointed in 2016 to provide the Site Development Plan and Landscape Masterplan through to implementation.
The concept which emerged was to be centred on a landscaped commonage which was intended to provide a unique park setting for the estate. The common area was duly implemented employing sustainable design principles with a circular pathway system enhanced with indigenous, endemic shrubs, grasses and tree planting which now provides a spectacular floral display within the scenic setting.
OvP subsequently provided the Landscape Guidelines including plant list for inclusion in the Home Owner’s Architectural Guideline Design Manual.
The sites have since been incrementally developed (2024) with uniquely styled textured contemporary style residences and the development sits comfortably in the context, achieving the developers’ ultimate design and profit intentions.
